Planning to visit South Korea and has no place to stay yet? Check out Kimchee Guesthouse. They have Downtown, Hongdae, Gangnam, Sinchon and Busan location.
I’ve been planning for my Seoul-o trip to SoKor for a couple of months and since I will be traveling alone, I decided to stay in a guest house since 1) Staying at a guesthouse can help me get to know new friends who probably I can be with while exploring SoKor and 2) It’ll be cheaper rather than paying for a private room.
I checked out the list of suggested guesthouses in SoKor and saw Kimchee as part of the list. I checked each and every guesthouse suggested and Kimchee Guest House was the one who offers the cheapest room. I was able to book it through http://www.booking.com (use my promo code: 55E30266 and get $15 off your bill). Booking.com even offers option to just simply reserve the room and be able to cancel it before a specific date without even paying for any amount which I did since I haven’t got my VISA the time I reserved the room. FYI, I got my room/bed for only 56,000KWN with 10% tax or 2,600PHP that already covers my 6D5N stay! Cheap right? 😛
Kimchee Guesthouse Downtown is not hard to find, it’s just across the Chungjeongno subway station, which is also connected thru Incheon International Airport by line transfer, and Airport Bus (Limousine) also passes by the bus stop near Kimchee Guesthouse Downtown which is a good thing too. When I arrived at the airport, I took the night bus since I wasn’t able to get the last trip for the Subway. I took the night bus to Seoul Station and from there took a taxi going to Kimchee Guesthouse. It took an hour for the night bus to reach Seoul Station and 15 to 20 minutes until we reached the guest house.
Transportation and Location – It had been easy for me to go to the locations I would like to visit since the guest house is accessible to the subway and even bus stops. There are also convenience stores around the area if ever you’ll be needing something. Cafes, restaurants and even a barber shop are just a few minutes away.
Facilities – I got the room for 8 bed female dormitory and it has its shower and toilet inside the room. We were also given our own locker which your own password can be used. My roommates are also solo travelers and they’re all nice. The dormitory room made me feel like I’m in school again LOL the bathrooms are cleaned every day. They have a common area with television and a smoking room. You can even wash your clothes there with an extra charge. You can even play table tennis and darts with other guests if you’re in the common area. You can have your food cooked or you can even cook your own food, just ask for assistance from the staff.
Staff – They accept volunteers in exchange of free accommodation but you have to help within the guest house (for further details, you can coordinate directly with them). The reception area is open from 9:30am to 11:30pm and since I arrived past 11:30pm, they left my check in details with the passcode to my room. All staff are friendly and can speak English.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Kimchee Guesthouse Downtown and would love to stay here again, but I’m also open to staying at other branches. It was my first time trying at staying at a guest house and I thought that it’ll be noisy and that I won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep but it was the other way around here. I even felt comfortable and safe. Beds are comfy, there’s wifi all over the area, lockers and room are spacious. The place has good value for money.
